About us
You could certainly call it a bold plan. In May 1933, the young Nico (Niek) Bouwens (then 23 years old) unveiled his vision for a 'new' Edam. The cheese town was to become a seaside resort, with great appeal (especially) to the people of Amsterdam. Edam was to compete with Zandvoort. To this end, a few months later, on July 7, 1933, the Strandbad was opened. For its time, it was a modern recreational facility with play activities and a beautiful restaurant. What started with allowing a few campers with small tents, Camping Strandbad Edam has grown into a mature campsite where guests enjoy staying with their caravans, trailer tents, or motorhomes, but of course, small tents are still more than welcome.
That was the beginning of what has now become Camping Strandbad Edam, which we have laid down in our mission and vision statement:
Camping Strandbad Edam is a sustainable and safe place where the past, present, and future go hand in hand. There is plenty to do! We are located in a unique spot on the Markermeer in Edam.
Our story
Where possible and financially feasible, we develop our campsite in a sustainable manner, with care and respect for the natural environment. We invest with the energy transition in mind. From a solid financial basis, the board and employees, with the support of the certificate holders as owners, work towards a healthy future. Our tradition is important and we take it with us into the future. We continuously invest in safety and quality with regard to the campsite, its visitors, and its employees.
Historic Edam, with its charming Camping Strandbad located on the Markermeer, is a unique place. Camping Strandbad Edam is a pleasant and affordable combination of camping, day recreation, and hospitality. Cherished and appreciated locally, and valued by our many national and international guests for its conviviality and, not to mention, the beautiful surroundings where there is much to do and see. This makes Camping Strandbad Edam a pleasant, relaxing place to stay.

Want to work at our campsite? Come by for an introductory meeting and ask about internship opportunities. For example, tasks at the reception desk or outdoor maintenance at the campsite and during daytime recreation. Do you have green fingers, are you technically minded, or do you enjoy being hospitable?
